Fun Travel
When Sandra was growing up, only rich people could travel. When she finally became a teacher, things had changed, and now we all can travel if we save our pennies. Sandra has learned so many things about life, people, and cultures that she highly recommends that people experience life in other places.
She developed her love of travel when she traveled and performed with 120 people from 15 countries and 35 states in the international musical group Up with People where she visited 8 countries, lived with host families, and spread the message of appreciating and respecting people and their cultures. Her cast was the first to visit Moscow in 1988, which was the goal of founder Blanton Belk when he started the organization in 1965.
Sandra had always wanted to go to China because it was the homeland of her ancestors. When she finally visited in 2010, she finally understood many things about her culture that she could only learn in her ancestral country.
She jumped at the chance to visit Madagascar while partnering with Eden Reforestation, and now she is partnering with Accelerated Reforestation Collaborative which planted over 500,000 trees in 2024 in three countries! In Madagascar, she got to plant a couple of trees, learned about reforestation firsthand, and petted lemurs!.

When asked what I learned from Practical Life Skills 101, my reply was “that you should do things that make you happy. However you also need to be responsible. Also that Ms. Jung is a bad-ass. Sorry for my language.
I remember being in Ms. Jung’s class, and she would always do mindful Mondays and would engage with her students by talking about her life and what she loves. Ms. Jung loves pizza and dancing! She assigned us assignments that have valuable lessons, like Tuesdays with Morrie. I never really had someone teaching me about life lessons, so I’m grateful that I got the chance to be in her class and actually learned something! The life lessons she taught motivated me and made me realize that she is not like other teachers that I have had. She actually cares about us and wanted us to learn something from her class!
My biggest success story is Benjamin Crespin. On the first day of class, I told the freshman that half of them would fail my English 1 class because in middle school, they were used to showing up to a class and passing it. I told them that they had to do more than just breathe to pass my class; they actually had to do decent work! Unfortunately, Benjamin didn’t believe me and ended up failing the whole year.
From these two days, I learned that it is important to
Ms. Jung’s class was an extraordinary experience that left a lasting impact on my life. Her ability to share her life lessons with the entire class was truly inspiring and enlightening. Through her stories and anecdotes, she imparted invaluable wisdom that I will carry with me throughout my journey.
